Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

What is BHRT?

BHRT is a form of hormone therapy that uses hormones most closely identical to those naturally produced by the human body. These hormones are commonly used to treat symptoms of hormonal imbalances, most often during peri-menopause, menopause and/or andropause (the male equivalent).

Key Points about BHRT:

  • Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as the body’s own hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.

  • Estrogen, progesterone and testosterone can be prescribed as FDA-approved products or compounded specifically for an individual by pharmacies.

  • Purpose: BHRT is typically used to relieve symptoms related to low or changing hormone levels. These symptoms include depression, anxiety, brain fog, memory sharpness, joint pains, fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, decreased libido, and fatigue, just to name a few.

  • Forms: Bioidentical hormones come in various forms, including pills, creams, gels, patches, and injections.
